Wow! It's been so long!

I just realized today that I hadn't blogged about anything in over a week. Wow! I've been so busy with work, I haven't even been able to read those blogs I'm following. I've also been really tired lately for some reason. I think my stress level is too high.

What do I want to talk about today? Well, I think I'll discuss those two servings of good oils I'm supposed to be getting in today. This has got to be the hardest thing to get in. No. 1, who wants to waste 2 points on oil? Not me! We discussed this in my WW meeting on Saturday. I didn't realize how very important it is, though, either. I was informed that it helps deter hair loss, dry skin, constipation. No wonder my hair is so thin! I don't think I've ever gotten in those good oils. The other two, yeah, I have to deal with that, too. Not fun!

So, my goal for the week is to get in two servings of "good" oils every day. So far so good, but the olive oil I have just tastes yucky. Does anyone know any oils that taste good? I added this olive oil I have to my oatmeal yesterday, and it just didn't taste good. Today I added it to my oatmeal, along with applesauce. The applesauce helped tremendously! I'm making taco soup for dinner tonight, so I'll probably add it to my bowl of soup and see if I can handle it that way.

Anyone have any ideas?

  1. Is your oil perhaps old? You shouldn't be getting yucky tastes for sure.

I saute a lot with my oil. Just add it to the pan and heat it and toss anything in.

3.5 ounces of shredded potato is 1 point and 1 teaspoon of healthy oil is 1 point and I get awesome hash browns!

I love homemade salsa. I use my 2 teaspoons (2.5 points if they're eaten all at once) of olive oil with red wine vinegar, finely diced tomatoes, onions, green pepper, celery, garlic, cilantro and salt. I get a veg that way too! I eat it with Tostito's scoops baked variety.

Maybe invest in a fresh bottle...I'm really working hard on getting mine in too. Good luck!

  2. PS:Canola oil has no flavor as far as I can tell. I love olive oil and use that most.

  3. I use olive oil in my salad dressing - the "make it yourself" Italian kind in an envelope. I also use a TBSP of olive oil when I'm making rice in the rice cooker (long grain brown organic rice) or when I make rice pilaf (one of the 11 yr old's favorite foods).

I heard on Jillian Michael's podcast that you're not supposed to fry in olive oil because it destroys the good properties. I tried making pancakes using olive oil in the pan once, and everything burned. Had to use canola for that.

Hope this helps! By the way, I consider butter - real butter, not margarine - to be a "good fat".
